"Wayeb" Time out of time

GuateMaya pilgrimage

Dear Familia,
Thank you for your prayers and for your work during these powerful times. Find below the initial details on our upcoming pilgrimage to GuateMaya. This ceremony, hosted by the Tz'utujil community in Lake Atitlan, is a continued prayer embodying the vision of beloved Tata Pedro Cruz. Tata Pedro celebrated Wayeb with his community for over 30 years; his final request was that we "keep the sacred fire lit" - and so it is.

The intention of this pilgrimage is clear: Strengthening our spiritual, physical, and mental health in order to understand and follow our mission on this planet through the wisdom of the Maya Cosmovision.

Dates: Arrive in Guatemala by 1 pm on 2/13/. Wayeb will take place 2/14 - 2/19. Depart on (or anytime after) 2/20. Specific timeframes and flight suggestions will be sent when approved to attend.

*We ask that only participants who are able to attend for the entire days of the duration of the retreat should apply. Lodging will be arranged by the organizers, and for scheduling/safety protocols, all participants will stay at the same location.

We will be mainly gathering outdoors, some short walks might be necessary but we will be in close quarters with others during meals, ceremonies, and in hotel rooms. If this does not align with your health concerns, please do not apply at this time.

What is the Wayeb?

Wisdom keepers have taught us that the Maya observed different calendars in order to honor and count time as well as understand the different energies, or “Nawales”, of each day.

The solar calendar in particular, or “Habb”, is composed of 365 days and divided into 18 months of 20 days each, which adds up to 360 days. Each year is also recognized to be guided and supported by a particular Year Lord/Carrier. The remaining 5 days at the end of the year is known as the Wayeb. This time is referred to as “the days or the time out of time", in between the guardianship of one Year Lord/Carrier and the next.

The Wayeb reminds us to go within, to reflect, and to humble ourselves in order to prepare physically, mentally, and spiritually to receive the energies in full for the new year and be prepared to keep fulfilling our mission. During these 5 days, the Sacred fire is kept lit day and night and many ceremonies, rituals, and practices are performed for both individual and collective healing/purification. Our individual and collective health is unwell. This is a powerful time to deepen our practices and disciplines.
